WTRL #106 – Flat Route
Course Notes – 3 Laps + Lead-In – 30.6km (180m elevation)
WTRL is back in Watopia on a course that has only been raced once in the last year, back in October 2020
Starting on the Ocean Pier and out through the tunder sea tunnels
After you are out of the tunnel – watch the 3% exit – there is the false flat drag up through the hairpins and then sweep down into the villas (cobbles), through the sprint, and on to the Esses. These mark the only real danger point of the course. The lengthy drag upto the first bend and then the constant gradient changes can split a team if you are not careful. It is worth considering a w/kg blob for these, at least on Lap1, to keep a solid unit. When you get here on Lap 2, consider how many riders you have left and if a few are strong enough and if one gets dropped, I would consider carrying on. By Lap 3 at this point, it really is best effort to the line in my view
