WTRL #153 – Innsbruckring
Course Notes – 3 Laps inc Lead In – 26.8km
Mostly flat with (I think) one of the more ridiculous names for a feature – the Leg Snapper (how is this different to any other short climb that it needs a name?)
The climb comes at 5km, 13.8km and 22.8km respectively, spread across 3 laps. Stick to your agreed Team W/KG for the 450m/7% effort – try and push the effort each lap and make sure you also push right over the top and onto the downslope before any easing off. It will be hard to get back together due to the speeds on the way down if you lose someone. Be mindful of the little kicker for 150m on the way down.

Distance | Feature Length | Elevation | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
0km | 2.8km | Occasional rollers – nothing to stop Rotations | |
2.8km | 0.2km | 2% | Sustained drag – watch for gaps. |
3.5km | 1.5km | Rotations – pick your stronger riders to take you to climb | |
5km | 0.5km | 8% | CLIMB – Agree your w/kg and rein in lighter riders – too soon to drop people ideally |
5.5km | 0.4km | -8-10% | Fast descent with some Supertucking available, but watch for… |
5.9km | 0.15km | 6% | …Kicker half way down, dropped riders should power up this. Those off front could use slope to bring team back together. |
6.4km | 5km | Rotations – Time to get reorganised. | |
11.6km | 0.2km | 2% | Sustained drag – watch for gaps. |
12.3km | 1.5km | Rotations – ask how people are feeling an tweak timings if necessary | |
13.9km | 0.5km | 8% | CLIMB – Agree your w/kg, but consider pushing it slightly – dropped riders now are probably best left |
14.2km | 0.4km | -8-10% | Fast descent with some Supertucking available, but watch for… |
14.7km | 0.15km | …Kicker half way down, dropped riders should power up this. Those off front could use slope to bring team back together. | |
15.1km | 5km | Rotations – Assess who is left and who feels strong – decide now on final lap action | |
20.4km | 0.2km | 2% | Sustained drag – Time can be made up here – drop riders if necessary |
21.2km | 1.6km | Rotations – probably favouring 2-3 riders or taking shorter turns | |
22.8km | 0.5km | 8% | CLIMB – Big final effort required – Keep 4 and let everyone else go at this point |
24km | 2.8km | After final descent – build effort, consider a selfless ‘Hero’ pull from someone if you have the numbers, who does extended turn before dropping and letting the rest build for a fast finish. |
