WTRL TTT – Greater London 8
Course Notes – 1 Laps + Lead-In – 24.1km
The only significant climb is Box Hill, arriving after 15.6km. Other than this, there is the 500m climb that appears once during the Lead-In, as you turn right off the Embankment and head up to Trafalgar Sq. This comes at about 3.5km… oh, and don’t forget Box Hill does not end at the arch, you need to push on over the steep section 500m later before you get any relaxation.
Outside of this incline and a couple of rises out of tunnels or escalators, you should be able to safely carry out lots of turns on the front, fully utilising a TTT rotation.
You can use my Race Time Predictor for this course, OR I have created a look-up table of predicted times for this course. You can find them at the bottom of the page. This is a new feature and work in progress, but should give you a good idea of your time.
Distance | Feature Length | Elevation | Notes |
---|---|---|---|
Lead In | |||
3.5km | 500m | 5% | Drag up to Trafalgar Sq – Agree w/kg for group at the higher end of the team’s range. |
LAP 1 | |||
10.5km | 1km | 2-4% | Double bump incline out of tunnel, before right turn downhill |
Minor caution only, if someone just coming off a turn | |||
15.6km | 3km | 4% Av | Box Hill : Am sure you have ridden this before. Agree something w/kg you can all hold for several minutes. |
Watch out for the little extra kick after the banner @ 19.2km | |||
Keep lighter riders reined in on the way up. Lots of Supertuck opportunities on the way down, but only if you are pushing less than 3w/kg on the front. | |||
22.6km | Escalators! Hit them early with power | ||
Don’t wait until you on them to start pushing – you will get dropped! | |||
24km | Build for Sprint Finish – Race Each Other! | ||
Time Predictor Look-up Tables
To use these tables, you need the following data.
- The Average Weight of your whole team in KGs (add all weights together and devide by team number)
- The Average w/kg you achieve as a team typically in a TTT (as above, assuming a reasonably even team ability)
- The Average Height of your team in CMs
Male and Mixed teams should use the blue framed chart, Female teams the dusky pink chart. The large weight and height differences between Male and Female teams can throw off the maths, so the charts give more accurate starting points in each case.
Pick the chart to which your weight and height are most closely aligned to the Reference figures, read along the top row for the nearest weight and then down that column to the row that matches your W/KG figure on the left. Write down that time and then take note of the Height and Team Size adjustments you need to apply for a more accurate time prediction.
Male/Mixed Teams
Reference Av. Weight : 69KG
Reference Av. Height: 178cm (add 2s per cm to your time if you are taller, minus 2s per cm if shorter)
Add 11s to your overall time for every person LESS than 7. Minus 11s if you have 8.

Female Teams
Reference Av. Weight : 54KG
Reference Av. Height: 168cm (add 2s per cm to your time if you are taller, minus 2s per cm if shorter)
Add 12s to your overall time for every person LESS than 5. Minus 12s for every person MORE than 5. (more is faster)
